5 Star Experience with Black Star

   We contracted with Black Star Home Improvement to replace our 20-year-old deck with TimberTech composite decking, a patio, walkway, and trash can enclosure. The schedule was important to us and Allison kept us informed of the status every step of the way especially with weather-related setbacks. Additionally, she and her team were very flexible as we made changes to the patio size and the walkway material after the project began. The trash can enclosure was an add-on as well. The project finished on time and within agreed upon budget changes due to up-scopes that we added. I highly recommend Mark, Candice, and especially Allison and her team for any project. 

  I recently had a deck rebuilt due to structural issues and wood rot and chose Black Star to build it. The new deck is awesome and better than before. Black Star was easy to work with and responsive to all my questions. Everyone that I dealt with was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Our project manager, Allison, was a pleasure to work with and responded quickly to any questions or issues. She kept us informed every step along the way. The crew that built the deck was efficient, worked hard and was respectful of our property. I am very pleased with the results, would work with Black Star again and would highly recommend them. 

 Black Star recently replaced an existing deck, added an extension and gravel underneath the deck. The professionalism and communications from the beginning were outstanding with Mark and Candice handling the upfront design, contract, Homeowners Associations package and county permit. Allison was the project manager and she provided daily oversight of the work and was always available to discuss the status of the project. It was a true pleasure to work with her and the entire Black Star Team. The quality of the work, communications and professionalism of the entire team were superb. We have received many compliments from neighbors on the new deck! 

 We were looking for decking experts to replace the flooring and modify the design of our completely wooden deck of 20 years and replace the door to the deck. Mark, the owner, took the time to understand exactly what we wanted done. Juan and his coworker who built the steps and the crew who designed and built the patio were exceptional. They took pride in their work and were meticulous in doing the job not just well, but perfectly.

Most importantly, we won the lottery with Allison as Project Manager. She constantly informed us of each step of the project and was on site multiple times a day to oversee the work. Her recommendations were invaluable and she went out of her way to match the stair materials to the existing deck. Allison was a pleasure to deal with and a consummate professional.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Black Star, and I can't recommend them highly enough. From the very beginning, their communication was excellent. They kept me informed at every step, making the entire process seamless and stress-free.

Being a local, family-owned and veteran-operated business made my decision to choose them easy, and they did not disappoint. The project site was consistently clean, which I greatly appreciated for myself and for my neighbors. The crew was amazing, very friendly and completed the project within a timely manner.

 The staff at Black Star made the entire process of replacing our decks as easy as possible. Mark came out to provide an estimate. He took time to ask what we had in mind then offered up his opinion and explained any code updates we had to include as our existing decks were 20+ years old. The turn around for an estimate was fast and he explained everything in detail. Allison was assigned as our project manager and met with us before work began to go over the details and verify we were all on the same page. She was in contact with us every day during the construction to keep us up to date and make sure we did not have any concerns. Most days she was the first person we saw in the morning and the last we saw that evening. We cannot express how happy we are with the finished product.  Excellent!! We are beyond impressed by the entire Team and their work. Their attention to detail is amazing! They communicate with you every step of the way starting with your first meeting with Mark to plan your project, along with his recommendations and vision of how things could be done. We can't say enough about how wonderful Ryan Schaffer managed our project and always with a smile. Will and his team built our screened in porch were friendly, always smiling and completely cleaned up everything at the end of each day. Oscar, who did our patio and stone work took the time to work with us to find the perfect color for the patio. We will continue to recommend Black Star and we will be using them for future projects! 

 Highly recommend Black Star. From Start to finish the Black Star team did exactly what they said they would do and the results were excellent, no surprises. Mark came out explain in detail the project plan, actions the team would perform and then passed us off to Candice and Allison. There was never a time between their phone calls, emails and text messages; we did not know the status of our job. Allison came out and did a per-inspection of the job site, came out every day to check on the project and personally kept us informed of project status. She was proactive in ensuring the project stayed on schedule. There is not a better communicator than Allison.The crew cleaned up their work area every night and left the area as they found it. Could not have asked for a better job from Black Star. They were on time and on target. 

 I had at least 6 companies provide estimates to repair/replace an existing deck/porch, and found Black Star to be the most professional while also friendly; reasonably priced without limitation to the quality; and great communication with consistent on-site monitoring by Allison (highly recommend her as project site manager) and reach-back to Mark (the owner) from the initial meeting for a quote until completion. I cannot recommend a better team, as my project was large-scale and complex with a few contract modifications at my request while under construction. 

We are so happy with our outdoor project! We had a landing & stairs and fence installed at our new home and are so glad to be able to easily access our backyard now. Everyone at Blackstar was easy to work with and both projects were completed professionally and quickly once started. We hope to get a patio as well in the future and will definitely plan to use Blackstar!

We were treated with respect, honesty, and as if our project was the highest priority of Black Star. From day one, meeting Mark, to the pre-construction meeting with Ryan and William, the end of each workday having the work area cleaned with care, to sitting on a work of art, we were completely satisfied. We were more than satisfied. We tried to find one single punch list item to discuss with Ryan after completion and there was not one item needing attention. We never once had an uneasy feeling of, “Did we get the deck we paid for.”

From the first meeting with Mark, we felt like we were with the perfect company. He listened, took the information in, and started helping us make a simple transitional deck into a beautiful deck that completes our yard in a way we never envisioned. Mark took the time to be thoughtful and thorough, so much so that because of his desire to see the yard be even better for us, we removed a dated bay door and replaced it with a magical 8’ x 8’ sliding door. We now enjoy our backyard from our kitchen without going outside.The work began with Ryan, the person overseeing the project, meeting with the two of us and the crew that would be completing the work. The crew that built the deck was William, Henry, and William’s father. Ryan and William worked with us to take a deep dive into the project and spent the first hours talking us through the project and we all had a clear understanding of the desired outcome.
